Director General Bemanya Twebaze was in China from 26 – 29 March 2024 on a high-level mission to raise the profile of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization and its offerings to the Asian markets. The DG and his delegation also attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference as part of the strategic engagement for the mission.

On invitation from the Boao Forum Secretary General, Mr. Li Baodong,  and the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Daren Tang, DG Bemanya Twebaze addressed the High-level Roundtable on Intellectual Property for Sustainable Development on 28 March 2024, illustrating ARIPO’s stance and contribution to sustainable and green development.

In his speech, the DG articulated how ARIPO conceives "the nexus between sustainable and green development and the protection of intellectual assets as necessary vehicles for socio-economic development," citing how the Organisation promotes the development of environmentally friendly technologies, practices, and innovations that assist Member States to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As a first joint initiative, WIPO and the Boao Forum jointly organized the High-level Roundtable on Intellectual Property for Sustainable Development, scheduled to be held during the 2024 BFA Annual Conference.

During this mission, the DG and his delegation held bilateral meetings with His Excellency Zhang Jianchun, Vice-Minister, National Copyright Administration of China, Mr. Feng Fei, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Daren Tang, the Director General of WIPO and other high-level delegates who attended the Boao Forum.
